Knowing that our well of Marvel content runs dry on April 23, the studio has finally released the first images and a trailer for the long awaited Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, currently slated for a September 2021 release. We finally start to see a hint of the plot emerge, and even some confirmation of the changes Marvel made to this property to bring it into the 21st century as more of a celebratory character than one steeped in problematic representation. Obviously we have more questions than answers now, but we can confirm that the rumors of the Mandarin replacing the caricature Fu Manchu from the comics as Shang-Chi’s father are true.
What are the Ten Rings in the MCU? If the gauntlets we see here are them, are we continuing down the alien tech route or will the MCU’s larger turn towards magic and mysticism come into play here? We’ll have to wait and find out!
